Gas work is dangerous if done incorrectly — leaks can cause explosions, fires, and carbon monoxide poisoning. That is why gasfitting is a regulated trade in New Zealand. Gasfitters Hiring FAQ
No. Under the Plumbers, Gasfitters, and Drainlayers Act 2006, only PGDB-registered gasfitters can install, maintain, or repair gas appliances and gas pipework. DIY gas work is illegal and extremely dangerous. The only exception is connecting a standalone LPG BBQ to a portable gas bottle.
